I had to fangirl a little when I got a social media message from the author of our book from Episode 4, “The Hot One.” She’s my guest for an update on Ashely’s case, and a special deep dive to discuss how our society’s obsession with true crime has a dark side. Why do people kill? That’s the question that has stuck with Mike McCarty from his upbringing in a small community where four young men were slaughtered one early Valentine’s Day over 40 years ago. It spurred him to dedicate his life to answering it. I remember those murders too – I grew up in the small community the killers hailed from.
